Evening Rain part 2

Description

To me the buffalo in the lower left hand corner absolutely completes this shot and defines what the Yellowstone experience is all about.

A heavy down pour envelopes the Lamar region with the sun setting in the distant horizon lighting the rain into a brilliant orange. One of the most scenic moments I have witnessed in Yellowstone yet. I hope the photograph represents just a fraction of what it was like in person.

I'm still sitting in front of the computer, staring at this shot in awe. I cannot help but the word perfection is in my opinion fully appropriate! Everything comes together, everything interacts and falls in place just as it's seemingly supposed to be.

I love the layered effect of the background, it's a very soft way of leading the eye, the various trees loosen up the atmosphere and prevent any dullness. The river vanishing behind that bend is just another helping touch. It's just a perfectly natural composition.
The slight monochromatic colour scheme works well. Gives the classic sunrise/sunset atmosphere. And the buffalo... well, he's got a sense of modelling <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)" /> To be honest, I don't know if I had recognised him as a buffalo if you hadn't told me since at first sight I got the proportions a bit wrong (it's much bigger than I thought!) but he does give the whole scenery a great finishing touch.
